Athletic Accomplishments

Sam Mewis is one of the best soccer players in the world right now. The best, depending on who you ask.

She rose to national prominence in high school, and a two-time Parade All-American and the2010 National Soccer Coaches Association of America player of the year. Mewis was twice named Gatorade Massachusetts Girls Soccer Player of the Year (2009, 2011).

In college, she split time playing for UCLA and the USWNT (NBD). In her junior year, she led the Bruins to a Pac-12 Championship and an NCAA title.

As a pro, Mewis has won 3 consecutive NWSL Championship titles, the first with the Western NY Flash in 2016, which became the NC Courage prior to their 2017 and 2018. She’s was also named to the NWSL Best XI.

Mewis started for the USWNT on their way to winning the 2019 World Cup. In 2020, she was named the U.S. Soccer Female Player of the Year. And at 28 years old, she’s really just getting started.

Character Archetype: The Rising Star

As a starter for the U.S. Women’s National Team, Manchester City, and the North Carolina Courage, Sam Mewis might just be the best soccer player in the world right now.

She doesn’t do anything fancy, but that’s just because she doesn’t have to. She’s THAT good. Just quality play, passing, and finishing. She sees the field, makes clever runs at just the right time, and at 6’0”, the Tower of Power knows how to use her body AND her head on set piece plays.

At 28 years old, Mewis is just now stepping into her dominance, getting better and better every time she steps on the pitch. Just how good is Mewis? And if she’s already the top of the table, how much higher can she possibly get? Keep watching. We’re about to find out.
