Athletic Accomplishments

Michelle Wie has been playing professional golf since 2005, before she even turned 16 years old. As an amateur, she won countless tournaments and made a name for herself as a somewhat prodigal talent, and became the youngest golfer to ever qualify for an LPGA event.

Wie had four Top 5 finishes on the LPGA tour from 2005-2008 and went on to rack up 5 LPGA Tour Wins, including at the 2014 U.S. Women’s Open, which was her first major.

Wie also made a name for herself by entering men’s PGA events. While she did not make the cut in those contests, she made a statement about women just by being there. Why not go for it?

While Michelle Wie started strong—with 5 LPGA tour wins—she has experienced a nagging wrist injury since 2015 that has sidelined her or prevented her from making the cut at LPGA events. But in 2021, she’s still in the game with a renewed focus and desire to get back to the top.

What’s motivating her? In June of 2020, Wie and her husband—Golden State Warriors executive Jonnie West—welcomed a baby girl, Makenna. And now, Mama Wie wants to show her daughter how it’s done.

Wie said, “It's made me want to come back and not just for myself, but for her and to kind of lead by example… I can tell her about the things that I did. But I really just want to be able to show her and I hope I have that opportunity to do so."

While she admits it’s not easy, and having a baby makes it a bit more logistically challenging, in many ways Makenna is her motivation.
