TRACK & FIELD - 100m - 200m - USA - LSU
ARCHETYPE: THE OMEN
Day 81/135
Athletic Accomplishments
Sha’Carri Richardson is a sprinter, running the 100m and 200m. In April and May of this year, she has run 100m times that have put the world on notice and made her the favorite going into the Summer Olympic Games.
As a teenager, Richardson won national titles in the 100m at the 2016 AAU Junior Olympics and the 2017 USATF Junior Championships.
The following year, she ran on the Louisiana State University track team, winning the 2019 Division I Women's Outdoor 100m title and as the runner-up in the 200m by less than one hundredth of a second.
Richardson turned professional, signing with Nike after just one year at LSU.
In 2021, Richardson has put on a show, running some of the fastest 100m times in history. In April, she ran a 10.72, the sixth-fastest time ever recorded, with only Florence Griffith Joyner, Carmelita Jeter, Marion Jones, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Elaine Thompson-Herah ever having run faster.
This summer, Richardson looks to not only qualify for the U.S. Olympic track and field team, but to run away with the gold medal.
Character Archetype: The Omen
It’s been 25 years since the last time an American woman won an Olympic gold medal in the 100m. But if you listened, you may have heard a warning after Sha’Carri Richardson cruised to the win at the USATF Golden Games.
“We’re just getting started!” she said, having put up a monster time—10.77 into a headwind.
This is not the first time Richardson has run blazing fast this season and then let the people know.
“I am who y’all think I am, and I am who I say I am,” Richardson said after running a 10.72 earlier this season. “My season is going to be unbelievable. Something that I haven’t been expecting. Something the world hasn’t been expecting. It’s time.”
So, I suggest you listen. Because you’re going to hear a lot about Sha’Carri Richardson. And she’s only 21, so you’re going to hear her name and see her electric hair for years to come. She’s coming. Fast. So you better be ready. Don’t say she didn’t warn you.
